What I find most interesting about the dialogue about this image is that people are much more willing to dissect and discuss what’s wrong with it and are choosing to ignore all that’s right with it. That’s a bold commentary about how miserable people are in their lives that they have to take issue with something intended to be so positive. I’m all for addressing colorism. It’s horrible. I fight it every day with my images. But, this image is clearly about proclaiming to the world that we are NOT what they would have us to be. Save the colorism attacks for the millions of images that are intended to perpetuate it mindlessly.
